See science as one of many human narratives

Tom McLeish, Professor of physics and Anglican lay reader

Let’s change the way we think and talk about science. We need to talk about it as story and adventure – a human adventure of collaboration, creativity and exploration together.

As soon as you start talking about science as a long, deep human narrative of adventure – as part of our becoming human, as part of our discovering our links to the universe – you automatically approach the issue of theology and science in an entirely different way. Rather than seeing a conflict, what you actually find is that the questions of theology motivate and support the questions of science.

Tom McLeish is Professor of Physics at Durham Unversity, Fellow of the Royal Society and an Anglican Lay Reader. He is author of ‘Faith and Wisdom in Science’ and ‘Let There be Science: Why God loves science, and science needs God’.
